Per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, it is the policy of BetterDoseRx to maintain a separate and distinct file for any patient who is currently receiving service, or has received service in the past 10 years. All records maintained are legible, clear, complete, dated, authenticated and, whether in electronic or paper format, are securely maintained to prohibit unauthorized access.
HIPAA was created to prevent the improper use and/or dissemination of a patients Protected Health Information. The list below highlights the policies and procedures followed by BetterDoseRx team members to protect the privacy of our patient’s.
We will only discuss private health information (condition, diagnosis, medical products received, etc) with the patient, or individuals the patient authorized in advance.
We will never leave Medical Records unattended in unauthorized areas/places.
We will use an automated screen saver on all pharmacy computers when not in use.
We will only discard paper copies of patient identifiable information in a locked shredder bin.
We will never send a fax with a patient’s PHI unless accompanied by a cover page including a disclaimer.
We will only include information that is absolute necessary when sending any correspondence outside the pharmacy.
